We are seeking a compassionate and reliable Assistant Chef to support the Head Chef in delivering high-quality, nutritious meals to residents in our nursing home. The successful candidate will help prepare balanced meals tailored to dietary, cultural, and medical needs while maintaining the highest standards of food safety and hygiene.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a caring environment and understands the importance of nutrition in elderly care.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist in the preparation and cooking of meals in accordance with planned menus.
* Support the delivery of meals that meet residents’ dietary requirements (e.g., diabetic, low-sodium, soft/pureed diets).
* Ensure food is prepared and presented to a high standard.
* Maintain strict adherence to food hygiene and safety regulations (HACCP guidelines).
* Assist in stock rotation, storage, and inventory control.
* Support with receiving and checking food deliveries.
* Maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas.
* Work collaboratively with care staff to ensure residents’ needs and preferences are met.
* Report any kitchen maintenance or food safety concerns to the Head Chef.
* Assist during inspections and audits when required.
Essential Requirements
* Previous experience in a kitchen environment (care home or healthcare setting desirable).
* Basic Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2 or above preferred).
* Knowledge of dietary requirements for elderly residents.
* Understanding of food safety regulations.
* Ability to work as part of a team.
* Good communication skills.
